Over 570 owners and operators have been involved with the Viscount. Some like Capital Airlines (USA) and BEA - British European Airways Corporation operated many while others like Air Anglia operated only one.

Viscounts operated by large airlines who had their aircraft for many years will have painted them in several different versions of their livery.

G-APPU - Channel Airways - March 1967 to May 1968

Purchased from Continental Airlines and re-registered. Taken arriving at Gatwick Airport, Surrey, England in June 1967.

Note the small window at the rear of the cabin.

Charter flights were often parked away from the terminal building area which includes the Autair Airspeed Ambassador and a Lloyd International Airlines Douglas DC-4 in the background.

Aircraft Summary

Continental Airlines

This aircraft c/n 364, a V.812, was built for Continental Airlines as N252V and first flew on Saturday, 25 October 1958 at Weybridge, Surrey, England.

During its life it was also owned and/or operated by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd

Its final owner/operator was Channel Airways as G-APPU.

Its fate:-

Damaged beyond repair after landing too fast and too long on a wet runway during a rainstorm at Southend Airport, Rochford, Essex, England inbound from Zestienhoven Airport, Rotterdam 4 May 1968. The aircraft aquaplaned and went off the end of the runway and slid sideways into and over a railway embankment. The fuselage was broken open forward of the wing. The aircraft was subsequently written off as beyond repair. Registration cancelled 5 May 1968.
