CAA - Central African Airways Viscount at Moscow,
USSR - 29 June 1956

CAA - Central African Airways Viscount c/n 101 VP-YND




On the 29 June 1956 Central African Airways Viscount c/n 101 VP-YND was the first Viscount to visit Vnukovo, Moscow, USSR. The aircraft had been sent to collect the British Industry delegation who had attended the Soviet Aviation day celebrations and was flown by G R 'Jock' Bryce in 5 hours 50 minutes. The trip included a 13 hour stopover at Tempelhof, Berlin, Germany. Officials from Tupolev, Ilyushin and Mikoyan took the opportunity to inspect the aircraft. VP-YND was later delivered to CAA - Central African Airways at Heathrow, London, England on the 1 July 1956.

The RAF - Royal Air Force Comet II on tarmac was waiting to take the British Secretary of State for Air Nigel Birch and his Air Ministry party back to Britain. Nigel Birch is seen shaking hands with the Chief of the Russian Air Force Marshal Zhigarev and Army General Malinin.

Duke of Edinburgh visits Vickers-Armstrongs - 25 April 1958

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh arrives at Vickers-Armstrongs, Hurn, Bournemouth, Hampshire, England 25 April 1958 on board Viscount c/n 230
G-APLX.

He is met by Vickers-Armstrongs chiefs and is shown the V.700 production line. On the production line are aircraft being built for TCA - Trans-Canada Airlines and Alitalia. After his vistit the Duke departed for the Vickers-Armstrongs facility at Wisley, Surrey, England.
