The crumpled and broken forward fuselage section is lying inverted with rescuers trying to clear away the debris to gain access after the fire has been extinguished.

This photo appeared in the Daily Mail newspaper the next morning.

After the fatal crash 17 February a section of the fuselage is being taken away on an ex Army Bedford truck under Surrey Police escort on its journey to Croydon Airport.

The car is an early version of the Austin Cambridge.

The aircraft had crashed on approach to Gatwick Airport 17 February 1959.

It really is amazing that anyone survived this crash.

On the left is the fuselage of an ex RAF DH82A Tiger Moth R4959 which was rebuilt by Rollason's as G-ARAZ in March 1960.
