Northeast Airlines Inc

September 1962

Delivered new to Northeast Airlines Inc. Taken at an unknown location in September 1962 with a group of Northeast aircraft temporarily grounded due to 'Operation Skyshield III'.

This was an exercise carried out by the US military at short notice to test the defences against a Soviet air attack.

The aircraft were grounded for five and a half hours!

The two previous Skyshield exercises took place in 1960 and 1961.

The 1963 event was the last time it was held.

Judging by the amount of grime on the fuselage it hasn't flown for quite a while.
