This photo shows the aircraft lying on its belly awaiting the recovery team.

The sideways skid is clearly evident in this view.

After the aircraft landed, the training Captain in the righthand seat inadvertantly retracted the undercarriage instead of the flaps and it slid sideways off the runway onto the grass.

This photo shows the aircraft back on its main undercarriage with the nose lift still to take place.

Sadly, the Captain resigned his position as a result of this incident.

It returned to the air for tests 17 December 1958 after extensive repairs and was back in service 19 December 1958.

The aircraft suffered a heavy landing accident and was written off.
