Englishman Matthew Flinders was a Royal Navy Captain who was a navigator and cartographer and was the leader of the first circumnavigation of Australia on board H.M.S. Investigator, which was completed in 1803.

The ramp oil stains were a legacy of the piston engine era as the turbine Dart engine was less prone to heavy oil leaks.

The outboard Rolls-Royce Dart engines have already been shut down.

The style of lettering used for the name 'Matthew Flinders' has now been changed back to the style originally applied by Vickers.

Note the weather radar nose which was installed circa 1962 as a result of an airworthiness directive following the crash of VH-TVC (C/N 46).

Delivered new to Trans-Australia Airlines (TAA) named 'Matthew Flinders'. David was shown around the cabin after the aircraft was withdrawn from service at Sydney Airport and when he commented on this nameplate the engineer unscrewed it and gave it to him as a souvenir!
